Lighting Up the Field: Sun Class Leads the School in Cheer 輝いた運動場”：たいよう組による応援合戦
On Saturday, 24th May, Katoh Elementary School hosted its sports day on the high school playing grounds. This day was the culmination of several weeks of preparation by the grade 6 students who had been working hard to lead the younger students cheering for their respective group’s (red or white) team. Despite heavy weather warnings causing the length of the day to be reduced, both teams worked hard and cheered with all their heart; eventually leading to a close victory for White Group. Each group’s Sports Day Leader and Subleader guided their group to choose music, rewrite lyrics to make them relevant to sports day, and choreograph a cheerleading dance that was performed on the day. They also lead the other grades in teaching them the song and a chant. The whole school learned well from their leaders, and in the days leading up to the big event, the hallways were filled with students of all grades singing their sports day songs.
